Welcome to the K-P Middle School! Our education center includes 5th-8th grade in Pierson. The 5th grade classroom(s) are normally self-contained with a couple of exceptions. The same types of classes are offered as in the elementary years (reading, math, science, language arts, Iowa history, art, music, and physical education). However, there are more opportunities including band and keyboarding. The departments of Title 1 reading, the resource room, and T.A.G. (Talented and Gifted) continue in the middle school.
The 6th-8th grade students go into an eight period schedule with several teachers. Classes include math, science, social studies, reading/language arts, keyboarding, technology, art, and guidance. The middle-schoolers usually have one study hall a day and may be involved with the “School-Within-A-School” program which provides extra help in the academic process.
Our middle school faculty and staff challenge our students and provide many “multi-disciplinary projects.” This quality staff cares about each of the students and helps prepare them for the future. Many unique things happen throughout the four years including the annual food drive (for those in need), field trips, the 6th grade “Survivor Trip”, History Day competition, student council, Math Bee competitions, the 7th grade S.T.E.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) festival, Talented & Gifted experiences (Lego League), 8th grade Hero’s Day, and many more educational extravaganzas.
In 7th and 8th grade the following extra-curricular activities are available: music, band, volleyball, cheerleading, football, basketball, wrestling, & track. Students are encouraged to participate in these activities. Giving your best effort is always encouraged in the classroom and in activities.
The curriculum meets the Iowa Core and is consistently being upgraded for 21st Century Learning Skills. We value our great support from our parents and the great communities of Pierson and Kingsley including the annual Panther Ball fundraiser! Our highly qualified teachers in the middle school provide an environment following our mission statement: “Excellence in Education!”
