K-P MIDDLE SCHOOL
TOGETHER WE MAKE A DIFFERENCE
#kpstrong
Welcome to K–P Middle School! Our learning community serves students in grades 5–8 in Pierson. Fifth grade classrooms are primarily self-contained, with a few exceptions, and students continue building strong foundations in core subjects such as reading, math, science, language arts, Iowa history, art, music, and physical education. As students transition into middle school, they also gain new opportunities, including band and keyboarding. Support services such as Title I Reading, the Resource Room, and Talented and Gifted (TAG) remain an important part of our program.
In grades 6–8, students follow an eight-period schedule and work with multiple teachers throughout the day. Their coursework includes math, science, social studies, reading/language arts, keyboarding, technology, art, and guidance. Most students also have a daily study hall and may participate in the “School-Within-a-School” program, which provides additional academic support to help them succeed.
The 6th-8th grade students go into an eight period schedule with several teachers. Classes include math, science, social studies, reading/language arts, keyboarding, technology, art, and guidance. The middle-schoolers usually have one study hall a day and may be involved with the “School-Within-A-School” program which provides extra help in the academic process.
Our middle school faculty and staff challenge students through engaging, multi-disciplinary projects that encourage critical thinking and collaboration. This dedicated team is committed to knowing each student and helping them grow academically, socially, and personally as they prepare for the future. Throughout the middle school years, students take part in a variety of meaningful experiences, including the annual food drive to support those in need, field trips, the 6th grade “Survivor Trip,” History Day competition, student council, Math Bee competitions, the 7th grade STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) Festival, Talented and Gifted opportunities such as LEGO League, and 8th grade Hero’s Day—along with many other enriching activities.
Students in 7th and 8th grade also have the opportunity to participate in a wide range of extracurricular activities, including music, band, volleyball, cheerleading, football, basketball, wrestling, and track. We encourage all students to get involved, explore their interests, and give their best effort both in the classroom and beyond.

Our curriculum is aligned with the Iowa Core and is continually updated to support 21st-century learning skills. We greatly value the strong support of our families and the communities of Pierson and Kingsley, whose involvement—especially through events like the annual Panther Ball fundraiser—plays an important role in our success. Our highly qualified middle school teachers foster a positive, engaging environment guided by our mission: “Excellence in Education!”
